Yantian back to old normal, takes in remotely driven cranes
Date:2021-07-08 Readers:
HONG KONG's Hutchison Ports' Yantian container terminal, having suffered congestion because of a Covid scare, has conducted nucleic acid tests on its staff, provided dormitory accommodation and dorm-to-port transport for dockers and has restored normal cargo handling operations, reports UK's WorldCargo News.

From June 24, Yantian has resumed operations across all its 20 berths and is handling 40,000 TEU and 20,000 truck calls per day, which the port said are "normal levels", the company said.

"With the full support and guidance from various government departments [we] have put in place a full set of precautionary measures for onboard operations. All staff members of Yantian have united as one to fight against the pandemic and do their part to restore normal terminal operations," said the Hutchison statement.

Despite shipping lines issuing a number of advisories and cancelling or diverting some services to Yantian in June, the port said it is still attracting new business. It welcomed 20 new services from January to June and is expecting three new American services to start calling in July, said the statement."In June Yantian took delivery of 18 new RTGs, eight of which are operated by automation and remote control. In addition the height of three STS has been raised to cater for larger vessels stowing more containers on deck," Hutchison said.
