THE Sri Lanka Ports Authority's (SLPA) terminals at the Port of Colombo have gone live with Navies' N4 terminal operating system (TOS) as part of ongoing modernization efforts, reports London's Container Management.
Harbor facilities needed an advanced TOS to update their offerings and aid in the business goals of modernizing the terminals to ensure enhanced safety, efficiency and productivity, said the port authority.
"Working with Navies on the implementation of N4 at Colombo port has been a collaborative effort from Access International, Navies and SLPA teams," said the port authority.
"When Covid hit last year, the Organisation showed dedication to execute the project from start to finish despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic," said the SLPA.
The TOS will help the port to offer new and automated processes to help optimize its service offering to its customers.
The growing South Asian shipping hub acts as a gateway for cargo to Europe, East and South Asia, the Persian Gulf, and East Africa and the SLPA terminals - Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) and Unity Container Terminal (UCT) - operate 2.5 million TEU annually. As a whole, Colombo port handles seven million TEU annually.
Said Navies' N4 vice president Charles Gerard: "One of our goals at Navies is to keep cargo flowing for our customers, and we are glad to have worked with SLPA to ensure that their team was able to implement N4 successfully during a challenging time for the industry."
