Iran seizes vessel and crew carrying smuggled fuel
Date:2021-11-26 Readers:
IRAN's Revolutionary Guards seized a foreign ship in Gulf waters loaded with allegedly smuggled diesel fuel, reported state broadcaster Hajian.

Revolutionary Guards commander Ahmad Hajian declared the ship's 11 crew were detained but did not give details on their nationality or identify the ship.

Said Iran's state broadcaster Hajian: "After inspection, more than 150,000 liters of smuggled diesel were discovered."

Video footage showed speedboats intercepting a vessel and masked armed Guards boarding it.

Iran has been fighting fuel smuggling by land to neighboring countries and by sea to Gulf Arab states.

Iran has frequently seized vessels they say are used for smuggling fuel in the Gulf.
