Bangladesh Shipping Corp posts 73.6pc profit increase

BANGLADESH Shipping Corporation has posted a 73.67pc increase year on year profit increase during 2020-2021 to BDT71.99 billion (US$83 billion), reports New Delhi's Business Standard.

The shipping company's profit was the highest in the last six years since fiscal 2015-2016, according to its financials.

The company owns several ships and oil tankers and charters seagoing vessels from other operators.

The vessels carry readymade garments, other export items, and imported crude oil.

Currently, the corporation has eight ocean-going ships with six new ships and two lighterage tankers.

In the first half of FY21, its net profit dropped 39 per cent compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Meanwhile, in the January to March quarter, it posted a 29 per cent increase in profit.

Around 40 per cent of the total profit came from the fourth quarter.

The corporation will hold an annual general meeting (AGM) on January 27, 2022.
