Yang Ming takes delivery of its latest 11,000 TEU containership
Date:2022-07-19 Readers:
TAIWAN's Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp (Yang Ming) has welcomed its newest 11,000 TEU container vessel YM Tutorial, which was chartered from Shoei Kisen Kaisha, Ltd and built by Imabari Shipbuilding Co, Ltd.

The YM Tutorial was named at a ceremony held at Imabari Hiroshima Shipyard on June 17 and has entered Yang Ming's transpacific West Coast route PS6 on July 15.

The port rotation for the first voyage of YM Tutorial in PS6 will be Qingdao, Ningbo, Pusan, Los Angeles, Kobe and returning to Qingdao.

The company has ordered a total of fourteen 11,000 TEU containerships through long-term charter agreements with ship owners, and the YM Tutorial is the 12th vessel in the series, reports London's Port Technology.

This type of vessel has a nominal capacity of 11,860 TEU and is equipped with 1,000 plugs for reefer containers. With a length of 333.9 metres, a width of 48.4 metres, a draft of sixteen metres, these vessels are designed to cruise at a speed of up to twenty-three knots. The vessels have also been equipped with scrubbers, Water Ballast Treatment Plant and Alternative Marine Power system to adhere to environmental regulations.

Yang Ming said this type of vessel adopts the twin-island design to increase loading capacity and navigational visibility to ensure greater efficiency and safety, as well as increase energy saving and reduce overall emissions.

Their dimensions enable them to call at major ports worldwide and pass through the new Panama Canal with little restriction.

Yang Ming has taken delivery of 12 vessels since 2020 to meet customer demand. The latest addition to its fleet was the YM Tranquillity, delivered on June 14.
