CHONGQING Jiangbei airport's international express package centre first phase project is soon to begin operation and bring another 10,000 tonnes to the airport's annual cargo throughput, Xinhua reports.

    The centre takes up an area of 4,000 square metres. Sinotrans, TNT, UPS has confirmed to operate through the facility. The 10,000-square metre phase 2 will become operational in February at the earliest.

    Chongqing airport handled 121,300 tonnes of freight from January to July, up 16 per cent year on year. International cargo surged 120 per cent to 25,000 tonnes. In July, its throughput increase was 34.2 per cent up on June to 16,800 tonnes. International freight hit 5,008 tonnes.

    The airport is expected to complete a cargo throughput of over 230,000 tonnes this year with a robust growth of 20 per cent.
