Hong Kong container traffic up 3.7 percent to 16.14 million TEUs

    Container throughput of China Port of Hong Kong in January-August 2011 grew by 3.7 percent compared to the same period last year, to 16.14 million TEUs, the Port Authority said.

    Eight-month container traffic at the largest terminal in Kwai Tsing rose 2.3 percent from a year earlier, to 11.63 million TEUs, while other terminals demonstrated a 7.4 percent growth, to 4.51 million TEUs.

    Port of Hong Kong is one of the largest ports in the world. In 2010, Hong Kong port's container trade totaled 23.69 million TEUs.
