LOGISTICS giant DHL has announced a weekly less-than-container load (LCL) service from Hong Kong to the southern coastal town of Paranagua, Brazil's second largest port "to capitalise on opportunities in fast growing Latin America".
The commencement of the direct Hong Kong-Paranagua route is an addition to DHL's direct LCL services from Hong Kong to Santos and Manaus in Brazil.
DHL claimed to be the first logistics major to offer direct services to Paranagua with its road and rail access to inland cities.
According to Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Brazil is Hong Kong's second largest export market in Latin America, after Mexico. Total exports to Brazil amounted to US$1,645 million in 2008.
"As businesses remain cost-conscious without sacrificing service quality, LCL services remain an ideal option," said DHL Global Forwarding North Asia Pacific CEO Kelvin Leung.
