Russian Mariner Trade Union (RPSM) and large shipping lines will sign collective agreements on protection of rights and working conditions improvement of the Russian mariners working on board the ships under ‘flags of convenience’ early November, 2009, stated Nikolai Sukhanov, Chairman of Far East regional organization of the Russian mariner trade union.

‘These contracts are made on the basis of a frame collective agreement approved at International Business Forum (IBF) in Manila ( ), September current year. Trade unions requirements on double payment for work in piracy areas are taken into consideration. Ship-owners shall follow working rights and social security of the mariners on board the ships under ‘flags of convenience’ under the contract,’ informed RIA Novosti with reference to Sukhanov.

As per his information, RPSM is planning to sign the agreements with Sovcomflot OJSC, Novoship OJSC, Join Stock Shipping Company, Far East Shipping Lines (DVMP) and others early December.
