GAC India's logistics team says it had just four hours to clear all equipment used at the India Economic Summit 2010 held last month in New Delhi, to ensure smooth clearance for the cargo to be sent back to Shanghai and Singapore.
In all, 24 tonnes of sound equipment, furniture, decorative panels and cables used for the forum were loaded into waiting containers and delivered to the Inland Container Depot.
"Due to high alert in the city and security concerns, we had just four hours, from 10pm to 2am, to clear the venue, pack up all the equipment, and ship them out. Thanks to good teamwork, planning and coordination between GAC staff and other parties, we successfully provided effective and efficient logistics solutions for our client," said GAC North India Area manager Sunil Kapoor.
GAC Events Asia was appointed by Palette Events to handle the three-day meeting of the World Economic Forum. Working on the ground in India was Mr Kapoor and his team who started detailed planning with colleagues in Singapore well in advance.
The scope of work in Delhi included inward clearance under ATA carnet, inventory, storage, export stuffing and forwarding, as well as coordination with police, customs escorts, the organising authority Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and management of the Taj Palace Hotel where the event was held.
According to Mr Kapoor, there were plenty of challenges to be met, ranging from the need for speedy packing to traffic jams, attaining permission to move cargo through restricted areas and customs clearance.
"GAC has proven its excellent and professional services in this project," said Desmond Ong, director of Palette Events, which was responsible for the setting up of the Summit. "We look forwards to working with them again in the near future."
