Japan's April domestic auto output soars after quake
Date:2012-05-29 Readers:

May.29--Japan's eight major automakers on Monday reported a 170% domestic production increase for April, as the hard-damaged sector recovers from last year's quake- tsunami disaster.
Japanese auto giants, Toyota, Nissan, and Honda saw huge jumps in output from the same month a year earlier when they halted production due to power shortages and the break of parts supply chains after the disaster.
Toyota said the output at its factories in Japan was up more than three-fold to hit 352,973 vehicles last month, while Honda Motor said its production at home skyrocketed 514.4% to 87, 049 vehicles. Nissan's domestic production also jumped 94.0% to 85,734.
Japan's auto sector suffered its worst month in history in last April after the March 11 disaster, while Thailand floods later in the year further damaged the Japanese manufacturers' supply chain.
But major automakers resumed production to pre-quake levels by the end of 2011, according to company reports.
