Cargo Ship Danio Off the Rocks
Date:2013-04-25 Readers:

Apr.25--The Farne Islands are home to thousands of puffins and grey seals, as well as more than 20 bird species.TITAN Salvage has refloated the 262-foot cargo ship Danio, after the vessel ran aground in theFarne Islands, on England’s Northumberland coast, while it was carrying a load of timber from Scotland to Belgium.

The onset of severe weather conditions had prevented an immediate attempt to tow the Danio from the coastline. However, Jason Bennett, the Crowley Maritime subsidiary’s commercial director, along with his team of salvors, immediately deployed a tugboat after the grounding and prepared for a refloating operation. After repairs, and during a brief window of suitable tides, Danio was successfully refloated without incident with the assistance of the TITAN-chartered tugboat Lomax.

TITAN said its team worked closely with Briggs Marine Environmental, which provided spill prevention equipment, the Secretary of State’s Representative for Maritime Salvage and Intervention, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the Environment Group and the National Trust, alongside the ship’s owner and insurers, to ensure vessel security and environmental protection. No spills or damage to the region were reported as a result of the incident or salvage work.

The Farne Islands are home to thousands of puffins and grey seals, as well as more than 20 bird species. It is classified as a site of special scientific interest.
