THE CNY5 billion (US$795 million) Xinjiang Rail International Logistics Park in northwest China recently held a ground-breaking ceremony and is expected to complete construction in 2015, reports Xinhua.

The facility is located close to Urumqi West Railway Station and is one of the five major logistics parks that are under construction.

Covering 153.3 hectares, the logistics park will involve the construction of five major areas such as commodity exhibition centre, distribution centre, business and financial centre, logistics information centre as well as provide for the life and leisure sector.

The authority aims to develop the facility into a home building materials logistics base facing north and south Xinjiang, central Asia and East Europe by taking the opportunity brought by the Silk Road Economic Belt.
