SISI Expert Panel Director Ma Shuo gives lecture on development of Shanghai international shipping center

Ma Shuo, vice president of World Maritime University and director of the expert panel of Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI), gave a lecture on “Development of Shanghai International Shipping Center - Government’s Role and Strategy” on June 3, 2014 at the invitation of the Shanghai promotion office for the development of international shipping center. SISI Secretary-General Zhen Hong and Deputy Secretary-General Zhang Jieshu attended the lecture.


Aimed to popularize theories on the development of Shanghai international shipping center, the lecture helped the audience to accurately grasp the new opportunities and challenges in this regard, and deepen their understanding of the significance, objective, and measures of developing Shanghai international shipping center under new circumstances. The lecture broadened the audience’s vision, formed extensive consensus, and endeavored to help enhance Shanghai’s capability to build an international shipping center. Professor Ma Shuo introduced the background and significance of developing international shipping center, analyzed the opportunities and challenges for developing the Shanghai international shipping center, and summarized main experiences and lessons learnt from the development of Dubai, Singapore and other international shipping centers. He then pointed out the main direction of government policy and management and issues to be kept in mind regarding the development of Shanghai international shipping center, and proposed the strategy and relevant suggestions. The open-mindedness and original opinions conveyed through the lecture were well received.
