Shanghai FTZ delivers 4th oil tanker in 3 years
Date:2014-06-16 Readers:

SWS Offshore, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), delivered an oil tanker at Shanghai Waigaoqiao wharf on June 6.

The Marlin Satu, 89.99 meters long and 16 meters wide with a gross capacity of 3,073 tons, is built for Singapore Petroleum Co (SPC).

It is the fourth and last tanker SWS Offshore built for the Singaporean oil company in three years. The delivery of the vessel means that the first batch of oil tankers built at Shanghai Free Trade Zone (FTZ) is finished.

The oil tanker complies with the world’s highest requirements in Unlimited Navigation Areas in stability and hull structure. Its wind resistance ability reaches the highest level in China.

Delivery of the four vessels also indicates that the manufacturing industry of Shanghai FTZ is gradually integrating into the international market. The advanced manufacturing and strategic emerging industries has become the core of the industrial pattern inside the FTZ.

The Yangshan Port branch of Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration offered much support to the building of these four vessels in the past three years. A special group of experts was set up to eliminate security risks, evaluate the shipping environment for trial sail and to improve the sail plan.

SWS Offshore says it is going to shift its main focus to design and building of a Platform Supply Vessel (PSV). The Yangshan Port branch is also going to expand new maritime services according to the construction and development needs of the port industrial zone in order to promote the development of Shanghai FTZ.
