This working report assesses the development status and policies of Shanghai port and analyzes the port’s influence on the city. It reviews the development of Shanghai port in the past decades, generalizes the main contributors to its development, examines and quantitatively analyzes the port’s influence on economy and environment, and evaluates the policies on port management, traffic and economic development, environment and space planning. Based on the main outcomes of the report, the author puts forth suggestions to enhance the performance of Shanghai port and intensify its positive influences.
