Date:2014-11-24 Readers:

Damco, Maersk's forwarding and logistics unit, has opened a new commercial office in to electronics exporting city of Zhengzhou in Central China.

"Zhengzhou has become a very important multimodal hub for Damco, with its strategic location, well-connected transportation network and advanced infrastructure," said East & Central China cluster manager Caroline Wu.

"In the past few years we are seeing more and more customers, namely technology companies, moving away from the more expensive coastal areas to Central China, and Zhengzhou is among their top choices," she said.

The company said its business in Zhengzhou has expanded rapidly over the past decade. Last year, 40 per cent of its air freight volume in Central China was shipped from Zhengzhou, including 100 charter flights with integrated inland capability.

The company has also upgraded its Suzhou and Hangzhou offices in eastern China after opening the Shenyang, Zhongshan, Wuxi and Dongguan last year.
