Dubai's United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has received the 14,993-TEU Salahuddin from South Korea's Hyundai shipyard at Ulsan, the third of 11 sister ships, and separate from a 17-unit order of six 18,800-TEU and eleven 14,993-TEU ships.

The newbuilding programme was launched in August 2013 for a first batch of 10 ships firmly contracted with seven options that were exercised later on, reported Alphaliner.

Construction of the 17 ships is shared between Hyundai Heavy Industries at Ulsan and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries at Mokpo.

The latest vessel follows the Al Murabba delivered in January by Hyundai Samho. She is to join her on the Asia-north Europe service operated within the Ocean Three alliance by CMA CGM that calls the service the FAL 8, CSCL that calls it AEX 1 and UASC that calls it AEC.

The box ships are designed and prepared "for a quick and cost-efficient LNG retrofit at a later stage". This environmentally-friendly LNG-ready concept has been confirmed with an approval in principle from classification society DNV GL.
