UP Railroad to invest $137 million in improvements to California

The Omaha-based Union Pacific Railroad plans to invest US$137 million to improve its infrastructure in California.


Within the total to be spent this year $117 million will go towards maintaining railroad track, $9 million to enhance signal systems and $11 million to maintain or replace bridges in the state, reported American Shipper.


Between 2010 and 2014, the railway operator invested $1.6 billion on its California infrastructure.


Union Pacific Railroad is a Class I line haul freight railway that operates 9,000 locomotives over 32,000 route-miles in 23 states west of Chicago and New Orleans.
