A SUPERJUMBO Airbus A380 lost a wingtip at slow speed and was grounded in a taxiing collision with a building at Le Bourget airport, where the Paris Air Show is being held.
The accident comes just two months after another superjumbo was grounded following a strike at JFK Airport in New York. London's Daily Mail said the collision mirrored the incident earlier this year when the private jet was spun round after it was hit by the wing of an Airbus A380.
It said the aircraft in the latest mishap for the aircraft manufacturers had been scheduled for demonstration flights during the show but these have now been cancelled, citing comments from show spokesman Alexander Reinhardt.
A further embarrassment for Airbus was marked by its earlier announcement that two of the three versions of its new wide body jet, the A350, would be delayed about two years, said the report.
The deadline for the stretched A350-1000 is being pushed back to 2017 to give engine supplier Rolls Royce time to develop a more powerful motor that will extend the jet's range, said Airbus. But the standard version of the plane, the A350-900, is still expected to arrive in the second half of 2013.
