Singapore's APL and PIL are to upsize the containerships operating their joint service that links the Far East with the Red Sea, including the Upper Red Sea. This weekly loop is branded REX by APL and RSS by PIL.

Ships of 8,500 TEU will gradually replace the current vessels of 6,300-6,600 TEU, beginning with the introduction of the 8,465-TEU CMA CGM Don Pascuale, contributed by APL.

The ship set sail from Shanghai on April 13, and is to be followed by two 8,266-TEU ships provided by PIL, reported Alphaliner.

The pair will replace two of the six 6,606-TEU ships that PIL currently deploys on the service.

The REX/RSS service calls at Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha, Chiwan, Singapore, Djibouti, Jeddah, Ain Sokhna, Aqaba, Djibouti, Singapore, Nansha, Shanghai, and turns in eight weeks.
