Ningxia first quarter rail cargo down 1.4pc, but box volume up 27.5pc
Date:2011-05-25 Readers:

NORTHWEST China's Ningxia Autonomous Region registered a railway cargo volume of 11.13 million tonnes during the period from January to March, 1.41 per cent, or 159,300 tonnes less than the same period a year ago, Xinhua reports.

The report said the fall was the result of the Chinese New Year holiday in February and inadequate train for cargo transportation.

Container cargo weighed 294,800 tonnes, up 27.51 per cent. Steel fell 25.31 per cent to 267,700 tonnes. Grain grew 16.94 per cent to 134,600 tonnes. Coal increased 3.04 per cent to 8.7 million tonnes.

Forty major railway transportation companies in the region recorded a total cargo movement of 10.59 million tonnes, down 3.12 per cent, or 33,100 tonnes.
