The Hanjin Scarlet in the Port of Prince Rupert, Canada, has become one of the first to start unloading its cargo since the South Korean shipping company filed for receivership on 31 August.

The Hanjin Scarlett has been anchored outside the Port of Prince Rupert since it arrived on 30 August, after the Korean Development Bank pulled its support for Hanjin Shipping.

The vessel berthed at the Fairview Container Terminal operated by DP World at 6am local time on 7 September.

“CN (Rail) and DP World, the operator of Fairview Container Terminal, have established processes to accommodate the movement of Hanjin containers through the Port of Prince Rupert,” the port said in a statement.DP World requires pre-payment from shippers for handling all Hanjin containers.

Most of Hanjin’s container vessels however remain stranded on anchorages or at sea as the company fears arrest of the vessels if the come into port, and terminal operators and other service providers are unwilling to work on the ships for fear of not getting paid.
