The Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau handled 25,000 cross-border maintenance and repair shipments in Shanghai Free Trade Zone in the first half of 2016, involving US$370 million in value.
The bureau replaced the old inspection procedures required for each shipment with an annual approval process for mechanical and electrical products imported for maintenance and repair in the free trade zone.
It canceled pre-shipment inspection of used equipment and replaced batch-by-batch inspection of imported items with periodic visits to repair service companies.
The bureau worked with the city’s commerce department, economic and information technology commission, environmental protection bureau, and the FTZ administration to adopt a uniform and fast process to evaluate companies specialized in repair and remanufacturing services for overseas clients.
The number of global repair service providers in the free trade zone has been expanded from nine to 11, covering telecom, computer, automotive electronics, semiconductor, industrial control system, aviation, and consumer electronics industries.
