The commencement ceremony for a new logistics park in Zhanjiang kicked off on Donghai Island on Jan 4. The park will take up approximately 13 hectares of warehouse space and has garnered a one billion yuan ($145 million) investment.
With the aim of building an integrated storage, transportation and delivery services provider, the project is launched by China Logistics Co Ltd, subject to China Chengtong Holdings Group Ltd, a state-owned asset-operating group.
The park will enable different types of logistics companies to share the infrastructure and supporting services, giving complementary advantages to all kinds of logistics activities.
The first phase of the construction will structure out a five-hectare warehouse, supporting facilities and a logistics and distribution base. During the second the phase a logistics processing zone and an e-commerce zone will be established, covering an area of five hectares. The third construction phase will build a financial service zone.
According to the project leader, the park is designed to facilitate the economic development of western Guangdong province and cities of the Beibu Gulf under China's Belt and Road Initiative. It will also strongly support Zhanjiang's key industries of steel, petrochemicals and paper.
The project marks another cooperation between the Zhanjiang government and Chengtong Holdings Group. China Paper, a subsidiary of Chengtong, invested 15 billion yuan to build a paper company in Zhanjiang in 2014.
The commencement ceremony was attended by Zhanjiang Party Secretary Wei Hongguang, Mayor Wang Zhongbing and other government officials.
