Constructing freight railway networks in NE China
Date:2017-05-10 Readers:

More and more goods form NE China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea have gathered in Changchun, Jilin province, in recent months since the establishment of the transport hub, waiting to be transferred to Russia, Poland, and Germany.

The Changchun-Manzhouli-Europe International Rail Freight Line opened in August 2015, with calls at Brest, Belarus; Warsaw, Poland; and terminates at Schwarzheide, Germany.

Wan Yue, president of Changchun International Land Port Corporation which operates the line, introduced that whole route covers 9,800 kilometers, costing 14 days to transfer goods from Changchun to Germany, which saves more than 20 days compared to maritime transport.

Zhang Hongming, head of the storage department of Fuyao Glass in Changchun said it takes about 55 days to transfer products to Hamburg, Germany, via sea transport, while the shipping time was reduced by half since the opening of the Changchun-Manzhouli-Europe line.

To date, there are five freight trains exporting goods to Europe and two trains importing products into China every week, and about nine trains are intended to operate on this route each week by the end of May.

Popular brands including Volvo, Huawei, Colgate, and Samsung Electronics have become clients of the line and transfer their products through the railroad.

According to customs statistics, the volume of the import and export goods transferring through Changchun-Manchuria-Europe line has exceeded 5,000 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit), worth $110 million and accounting for over 14.2 percent of the total carrying capacity of the China-Europe freight trains in Manchuria Land Port.

Another China-Europe freight train, Changchun-Hunchun-Europe Line, is also under construction and will promote the development of the railway network in NE China.
