GHANA's capital has hosted its first China Trade Week, a two-day exhibition designed to serve as a platform for Ghanaian businesses and entrepreneurs to engage with Chinese manufacturers from a diverse range of industries.

China and Ghana have enjoyed fruitful economic and trade cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic ties 57 years ago, reported GhanaWeb. Their bilateral trade rose to US$5.97 billion in 2016, making Ghana, China's seventh largest trade partner on the African continent.

China's ambassador to Ghana Sun Baohong called on both nations to entrench the concept of win-win cooperation for common development and to work together to promote trade and investment, and oppose protectionism.

"I am very confident that as long as we display sincerity and solidarity, and conduct cooperation from a long-term and strategic perspective, the economic and trade cooperation between China and Ghana will be promoted a notch higher and create a more brilliant chapter," Ms Baohong was quoted as saying.

The chief executive of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Yoofi Grant, described China's Belt and Road initiative as a very significant and bold move.

"Ghana is positioning [itself] as the hub for West Africa. If China wants to access the free zones of West Africa and the intended continental free trade area of Africa, Ghana is the place that we think you should start," added Mr Grant.
