FINLAND's Konecranes has signed a deal to service its own cranes and yard gear at PSA's European Terminal (MPET), the biggest in the Port of Antwerp.
"To keep the availability of the straddle carriers high, we now entrust the service work to their manufacturer, Konecranes," said Antwerp Terminal Services rolling equipment manager Randy Verresen, who is responsible to PSA Antwerp and MPET.
MPET, the biggest terminal in Europe, handles the most container volume in the Port of Antwerp.
"Last year, we exceeded the 10 million TEU mark for the first time, which led to an increasing need for new machines. As a result, our fleet of Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers has expanded by almost 100 machines in the past 12 months," said Mr Verresen.
Said Konecranes regional manager Tom Cerpentier: "In addition to straddle carriers, other types of Konecranes port equipment such as mobile harbour cranes (MHCs), automated stacking cranes (ASCs) and lift trucks are operated by various customers in the port and need to be serviced and maintained."
Konecranes 2016 revenues stood at EUR3.27 million (US$3.88 million) and the company employs 16,800 at 600 locations in 50 countries.
