A sister-port agreement was signed between Taicang and Shimonoseki ports in Japan on Nov 27.
The two ports are expected to cooperate
in management and revitalization by regular exchanges, improve the
safety of shipping routes between them, and deepen their friendly
relations and cooperation in trade, according to the agreement.
Wang Jianguo, mayor of Taicang, spoke of
the city's economic and social development during the signing ceremony.
He said that with great industrial foundations, Taicang is accelerating
its industrial transformation and upgrading.
Wang hopes that taking the establishment
of sister ports as an opportunity the two cities can further advance
their exchanges and cooperation for better development.
The head of the Taicang port also hopes that the two parties will share experience, train talents, and open more ship routes.
Some 18 routes from Taicang port to 10
Japanese counterparts, including Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, Nagoya, and
Shimonoseki, are now active each week.
Two ships sail from Taicang port to
Shimonoseki every week, taking only 29 hours for a one-way trip and
featuring stable running, efficient service and punctuality.
In recent years, Taicang has engaged in
exchanges and cooperation with international ports and a total of 189
routes for regular container ships have so far been opened.
