Zhanjiang
Port Group broke its previous record by handling 89,000 twenty-foot
equivalent units (TEU) in May, up 24 percent year-on-year.
The
company's efforts to foster new business formats are seeing results, as
the number of containers transported via a sea-rail combined model grew
by a staggering 80 percent to more than 2,000 last month.
Meanwhile,
the "less than container load" (LCL) freight also witnessed an increase
of 22 percent. It is noted for being able to increase efficiency and
save costs by putting bulk cargo and other consignments bound for the
same destination in a single container.
In
recent years, Zhanjiang Port Group has been constantly expanding its
shipping network. It now operates 15 foreign trade shipping lanes
worldwide, of which eight are connected to the Association of Southeast
Asian Nations (ASEAN).
