World leading tech from Martek Anti-drone Systems receives DAME award nomination
Date:2018-11-12 Readers:

Judged by a panel of top naval architects, boat, interior and industrial designers, plus user experts, the DAME Design Award is the most significant marine equipment competition of its kind, anywhere in the world.

M.A.D.S™ is the worlds first marinized CUAS modular system, that detects and identifies drones within a 2.5km range, providing GPS positioning of both drone and pilot together with the drones speed and heading. Configurable and escalating stage alarms in real time allow the threat level to be assessed and defeated

M.A.D.S™ offers huge safety and security benefits, and can be used for any application related to water; yachts, ships, ports, sea platforms coastguard or naval vessels and more.

A growing market

Its estimated there will be 20million drones, or Unmanned Arial Systems (UAS), in use by 2020. With yearly growth increasing >30% year on year, the $11.2 billion industry is only going to become more prominent in business and personal lives.

The greatest growth is in the personal use market. These drones are available for under $5000 with most being capable of 5km range, 500+m height and 1-hour flight time.

Drones have been used in swarms” in Iraq and Syria by terror groups. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group reported five drones were shot down when approaching the Russian military base on 14th August 2018, the fifth time in as many days that drones have been downed.

A single drone caused $1billion in damage when it dropped a grenade on a Ukrainian arms depot.

The recent assassination attempt on the Venezuelan President highlights the threat and ill-prepared potential victims.

The threat

Vessels in port, at anchor or on coastal transits are sitting ducks’ and currently powerless to know when theyre going to be attacked, let alone be in a position to defend against the threat.

Superzoom lenses and covert listening technology now mean that being offshore offers no safeguard against invasion of privacy, never mind the physical threat.

After meticulous design and testing, M.A.D.S™ is at the end of its development stage and ready for customer use, already receiving international interest from companies and individuals who recognise this airborne threat.

Erik van Wilsum, Head of CUAS at Martek Anti-Drone Systems, was delighted with the news saying

To be nominated for, never mind winning, the DAME Design Award is a fantastic achievement for any product and the team behind it.

Not only is M.A.D.S™ a lifesaving system which gives the marine user and port facilities the ability to take back control of their skies, but its also a great engineering achievement. When you consider the array of drones on the market and ensuring theres no interference with existing communication systems, you can appreciate why theres a real buzz on the market for this product.

Winners of each category and the overall winner will be announced on the opening day of METSTRADE on 13th November 2018.
