On May 21st, the 4th plenary meeting of the Global Shipping Think Tank Alliance was held by PolyU Maritime Library and Research & Development Centre (PMLC) in Hong Kong. Delegates from PMLC, the sponsor, KMI, the chairman, SISI, the secretariat and alliance members including SRM, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Dalian Maritime University, Drewry, Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics (ISL), DNV-GL, IHS Markit, Centre for Maritime Studies, NUS attended this year’s meeting. Guests from Intesa Sanpaolo, the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Transport and Housing Bureau were invited to the meeting as well.
In the meeting, delegates discussed two main global shipping issues. One is National/regional shipping industry developments: practices, policies, and challenges in digital era. The other is the Impact of global political and economic issues on shipping, ports and logistics and national/regional countermeasures facing trade protectionism, US-China trade dispute, Brexit etc. Besides, participants also discussed the operation of the Think Tank Alliance Website. Owing to the support from all the units, the meeting was a great success. Moreover, it is announced that the 5th Plenary Meeting of the Alliance will be sponsored by ISL in Bremen, Germany on February 11th, 2020.
