Coronavirus means few reefer plugs at China ports, risking cargo diversion
Date:2020-02-18 Readers:
CHINESE ports are congested mostly because of a lack of available plugs for reefer containers due to the effect of the coronavirus outbreak, says the Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC).

MSC said it cannot discharge reefers containers at designated ports if a power source is not available, which means reefer boxes may be discharged at other ports and held there until it is possible to forward them, reported the American Journal of Transportation.

In case the situation remains unchanged it may be necessary to abandon the voyage and advise shippers where your containers may be collected.

"Please note that in both cases MSC is entitled to charge to the merchant additional freight and costs including but not limited to storage, demurrage and plugging," said an MSC statement.

"The delay to your cargo is beyond MSC's control and for the avoidance of doubt MSC is not liable for loss or damage caused by the delay," it said.
