Known as the RMS15 service, the route will be served by a pair of 1,200 TEU container vessels, of which the 1,850 TEU Teera Bhum commenced the maiden voyage on the revamped service on July 1 from Singapore.

The RMS15 port rotation will be Singapore, Westport, Northport, Penang, Westport, Singapore, Jakarta, and Westport.

This will be a change from the current RMS service's port rotation of Singapore, Westport, Northport, Penang, Singapore.

"With companies relocating their supply chains to Southeast Asia and this region seeing growing middle classes with greater propensity for personal consumption, direct connectivity and increased sailing frequencies within this area are important considerations for both our COC (carrier owned containers) and SOC (shipper owned containers) customers," a RCL spokesperson said.

"With the new RMS15, COC customers can now enjoy direct connectivity between Penang and Jakarta and vice versa. RCL's SOC customers will also have a choice of three weekly sailings now between Jakarta and Singapore with the RTI01, RTI02 and the new RMS15 extension."

RCL currently operates a fleet of 46 vessels with sizes ranging between 200 TEU to 6,621 TEU, reports Seatrade Maritime News, Colchester, UK.
