CMA CGM takes its 2nd LNG-powered 23,000-TEU vessel
Date:2020-11-06 Readers:
FRENCH shipping giant CMA CGM, with the delivery of the 23,000-TEU CMA CGM Champs Elysees, now has now two mega ships in service powered by liquefied natural gas, reports Colchester's Seatrade Maritime News.

Liquefied Nitrogen Gas (LNG) is a pioneering choice aimed at preserving air quality and is scheduled to fuel CMA CGM's series of container ships with LNG-powered engines. If done, it'll be a first in the history of shipping for ultra large container vessels (ULCV).

LNG is the most advanced solution for air quality as it enables a 99 per cent reduction in sulphur dioxide, fine particle emissions, and an 85 per cent reduction in nitrogen dioxide emissions. Plus LNG emits up to 20 per cent less CO2 compared to standard fuel burn.

The nine vessels have an LNG Powered label that will be recognisable everywhere in the world.
