IAPH continues work on catalysing decarbonisation of shipping
Date:2020-12-11 Readers:
THE International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) continues to work on catalysing the decarbonisation of shipping sector, said its press release.

IAPH's Environment Ship Index has registered 8,000 vessels and 60 incentive providers since 2013. They look toward the index and Clean Marine Fuels Working Group to support the recent proposal put forward at MEPC 75.

The International Maritime Organisation's (IMO) 75th Marine Environment Protection Committee Meeting (MEPC) reached an agreement over a package of short term technical and operational measures to address emissions from ships.

The International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) embraced the introduction of the Energy Efficiency Existing Ships Index (EEXI) and the Carbon Intensity Indicators (CII).

"IAPH regrets that the compromise reached favours the less ambitious of the proposals put forward, regarding scope of application, reduction factors and enforcement," said IAPH managing director Patrick Verhoeven.

"Nevertheless, and despite its shortcomings, we are looking forward to working with all relevant parties for the efficient implementation and use of the package, towards our common aim. We soldier on," said Mr Verhoeven.
