THE 13,092-TEU ship Maersk Elba suffered a fire in its engine room off southern Portugal in the morning of December 26, according to Portugal Maritime Authorities.
The ship was en route from Sri Lanka via Suez to Felixstowe UK. The ship is currently disabled and was anchored off Sagres for repairs.
Although it isn't clear, the ship was most likely towed to anchorage. No injuries were reported, and the crew is expected to complete repairs before resuming voyage.
