The container route from Tangshan Port in Tangshan, North China's Hebei province, to Pyeongtaek Port in South Korea recently started operations. It's the seventh container route to Northeast Asia opened by Tangshan Port Group.
The new route operates once a week and is a step by Tangshan Port to bolster economic cooperation in Northeast Asia.
The route will become a new engine for Tangshan Port to accelerate its level of opening-up, industry clustering and trade service functions.
South Korea's Pyeongtaek Port is the export freight forwarding port for many Tangshan-based enterprises involved in steel, machinery, ceramics, chemicals, agricultural products and other cargo types.
In recent years, Tangshan Port set up 39 inland ports in Northwest and North China and opened international freight trains to Europe, Mongolia and Russia.
Also, 46 container routes were opened, achieving full coverage of major domestic coastal ports as well as 10 basic ports and 26 partial ports in Japan and South Korea.
In 2020, Tangshan Port completed a cargo throughput of 702 million metric tons, ranking second among the world's coastal ports. It completed a container throughput of 3.12 million twenty-foot equivalent units.
