Seaspan places newbuild order for six 15,000-TEU ships
Date:2021-07-08 Readers:
HONG KONG's non-operating containership owner Seaspan Corporation placed a newbuild order with an Asian shipyard for six 15,000-TEU ships, reports London's Loadstar.

Seaspan's strategy is primarily for long-term, fixed-rate time charters to the world's biggest container lines.

The company recently announced it agreed to forward-fix 17 ships with Cosco, where charters are due to expire this year, 2022 and 2023.

Meanwhile, the Atlas Corporation subsidiary, Seaspan's fleet, has seen exponential growth to a fleet of 176 ships, for a capacity of 1.8 million TEU.

The value of its fleet has soared from US$4 billion at the beginning of May to $13.5 billion today.
