LINER on-time performance in the eastbound transpacific declined in July for the third month as the three vessel-sharing alliances met port congestion in Asia and the US, reports IHS Media.
Global Liner Performance Report by Sea-Intelligence Maritime Analysis noted that declining container vessel reliability in the largest US trade lane was part of a global trend as 28 of the 34 trade lanes showed declines.
On-time vessel arrivals on the US west coast fell from 21.2 per cent in June to 15.7 per cent in July, while reliability on Asia-US east coast services declined from 26.5 per cent to 20.9 per cent. Globally, on all 34 trade lanes, vessel reliability declined from 39.4 per cent to 35.6 per cent.
The three alliances that dominate the Asia-North America trade - the 2M Alliance of Maersk and MSC; the Ocean Alliance of Cosco, CMA CGM and Evergreen.; and THE Alliance of Hapag-Lloyd, ONE, HMM and Yang Ming - performed particularly poorly last month.
