China posts 22pc rise in total port volume in first 10 months
Date:2021-12-02 Readers:
CHINA's total foreign trade cargo volume in the first 10 months of 2021 increased 22.2 per cent year on year, reported Colchester's Seatrade Maritime News.

Zhejiang's twin port complex of Ningbo-Zhoushan operated 287 shipping services this year, 27 services more than in 2020, hitting a record high.

In the first 10 months container volume at Ningbo-Zhoushan port exceeded 2020's total throughput.

Container throughput in China for the first 10 months of 2021 rose 8.4 per cent compared to last year, reaching 235.48 million TEU, reported London's Port Technology International.

The latest figures from the Ministry of Transport indicate cargo throughput throughout the country reached 12.87 billion tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 7.8 per cent.

Through October 2021, it was revealed the country processed a total of 24.52 million TEU and 1.32 billion tonnes of cargo.

This follows the news that in the first nine months of 2021, China processed 211 million TEU, an increase of 9.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2020.

Shanghai saw the largest amount of container throughput throughout this time, handling a total of 34.8 million TEU, a year-on-year increase of 9.9 per cent.

On the other hand, the Port of Dalian saw a steep decline in throughput with a reduction of 37.2 per cent to only 2.69 million TEU, the lowest number reported during the period and the only port reporting a decline in throughput.
