THE Port of Los Angeles posted another monthly record in March with volume up 14.7 per cent year on year to 958,674 TEU, reported the American Journal of Transportation.

The Port of Long Beach also enjoyed its busiest March and busiest-ever quarter, up 2.7 per cent in March year on year to 863,156 TEU.

Apart its third consecutive monthly cargo record, LA also posted its best ever first quarter, up 3.5 per cent year on year,

"With improved fluidity on our docks and fewer vessels waiting to enter the port, our terminals are processing cargo at record levels," said Port of Los Angeles executive director Gene Seroka.

Meanwhile, Long Beach imports increased 4.7 per cent to 427,280 TEU, while exports declined 18.3 per cent to 114,185 TEU. Empties jumped 10 per cent to 321,691 TEU.

Said Port of Long Beach executive director Mario Cordero: "Imports are on the rise as we continue to clear the line of ships waiting to enter our port and move containers off the docks."
