China ports handle 169m TEU from January to July, Shanghai still leading
Date:2022-08-23 Readers:
PORTS across China moved a total of 168.7 million TEU from January to July, an increase of 4.2 per cent compared to the same period in 2021.

In the first seven months of 2022, the cargo volume of Chinese ports was 8,920.8 million tonnes, a small year-on-year decrease of 0.1 per cent.

Shanghai remained the best performing port, with a traffic of 26.8 million TEU from January to July.

Earlier this month, the authorities of Shanghai ordered further rounds of Covid-19 testing following the discovery of new cases, reports London's Port Technology.

The most significant surge was registered by Beibu Gulf, with a year-on-year throughput growth of 22 per cent.

The average value of the Ningbo Container Freight index (NCFI) in August decreased by 7.4 per cent compared to last month, owing to a relatively soft market performance on the Ningbo Zhoushan Port-West Costal of North America route.

Last month, China ports reported a total throughput of 142.3 million TEU moved over the first half of 2022, accounting for a 3 per cent climb year on year.
