On Oct. 4, Dubai Customs launched its new system for radioactive scanning of trucks and containers.
HE Ahmed Butti Ahmed, the executive chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and director general of Dubai Customs, launched the IP6500 system in a ceremony at Jebel Ali Port. The ceremony was attended by a high level U.S. delegation, including Alan Bersin, commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as well as Justin Siberell, U.S consul general in Dubai. Also in attendance was Mohammed Al Mualim, vice-chairman and director general of Dubai World
Bhutti said Dubai Customs plans to install four extra radioactive systems at its customs ports to speed up inspections and increase security. “The new system is capable of scanning 150 trucks per hour while moving at a speed of 8 and 15 km coming to one truck every 24 seconds,” he said.
