Containership and aframax tanker collide in Malacca Strait

AN aframax Panama-flagged 105,588-dwt product tanker Zephyr I collided with the Liberian-flagged 7,455-TEU GSL Grania at 4:30am local time September 27 in the Malacca Strait between Malacca City and Singapore while sailing in the same eastern direction, reported Kiev's Maritime Bulletin.

The tanker struck the containership's stern, with both vessels sustaining extensive damages. The ships anchored following the collision. The tanker was loaded with bitumen and was on its way to China, container vessel was sailing to Tanjung Pelepas from Savannah.
