Russia's marine agency wants to calls via Black Sea, not Far East ports
Date:2022-10-07 Readers:
RUSSIA's Federal Marine and River Transport Agency says it is necessary to shift container flows from Russia's Far East ports to the southern ones, particularly to the Black Sea Port of Novorossiysk, reports St Petersburg Port News.

That would allow facilities in the Far East to operate at full capacity, the agency told a the Maritime Congress in Moscow.

"Work is under way on optimisation of logistics including involvement of rear terminals and loading of open-top railway cars," said the agency's Zakhary Djioev.

Major international operators including Maersk, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), CMA CGM, Hapag Lloyd and ONE stopped calling at Russian ports after Russia invaded the Ukraine earlier this year.

Container flows have turned from the northwest via the Baltic to the south and the Far East of Russia.
