SOME 2.7 million tonnes of basic commodities have been imported to Iran via Shahid Rajaee port, the country¡¯s largest and best-equipped container port, since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21), reports Tehran's Islamic Republic News Agency.
Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organisation director general Hossein Abbas Nejhad said 1.2 million tonnes of wheat have been unloaded in Shahid Rajaei Port.

The director of The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Shahid Rajaee Port in his remarks added that at the time being, two ships containing 42,000 tons of vegetable oil were unloaded.

Located along the Persian Gulf and near the Strait of Hormoz, Shahid Rajaei Port is Iran¡¯s biggest container hub, handling almost 80 per cent of the country¡¯s container activities.

The port can accommodate panamax ships with a capacity of more than 12,000 TEU. The port¡¯s capacity is envisaged to increase to eight million TEU when the construction operations are complete.
