A SECOND container terminal at British Columbia's northern Port of Prince Rupert is in DP World's plans for the future, reports Singapore's Splash 247.
DP World Prince Rupert has engaged AECOM, an infrastructure consulting firm, to conduct a feasibility study and design for the development of a second terminal.
AECOM's work is intended to determine the technical and financial feasibility of developing the terminal, and provide the baseline studies that will be required for environmental approvals.
"Prince Rupert's second terminal is envisioned to be a truly unique facility employing advanced technology, resilient infrastructure and sustainable best practices," said Marc Devlin, chief executive of AECOM's Canada region, in a news release.
The second terminal, which will be fully electric, is expected to double the Port of Prince Rupert's overall container capacity, adding at least two million TEU annually.
"The second terminal is core to the Port of Prince Rupert vision to grow capacity in support of Canada's trade expansion ambitions in the Indo-Pacific region while also contributing to greater resiliency in Canada's import and export supply chains," said Prince Rupert Port Authority CEO Shaun Stevenson.
