Modest container growth at King Abdullah Port in 2022
Date:2023-02-02 Readers:
SAUDI Arabia's bustling west coast port facility, King Abdullah Port (KAP), saw throughput of 2.91 million TEU at its container terminal last year, up from 2.81 million TEI in 2021.

The port said in a statement: "KAP sustained business growth in 2022, despite macroeconomic uncertainty and global trade challenges. During the past year, it posted a positive growth of 3.25 per cent in container throughput, in addition to cementing its distinguished position among the world's fastest-growing ports."

In what it called another major milestone, the port said it facilitated the shipping of 288 trucks to Australia as part of its first ro-ro trial, reports UK's Seatrade Maritime News.

"KAP reported a positive performance in 2022 notwithstanding international trade facing challenges arising from global economic headwinds. This achievement is a validation of its robust business model, its industry-leading capabilities and offerings, and the undisputed role it plays in Saudi Arabia's logistics and maritime sectors," said the port's CEO Jay New.

KAP ranked as the most efficient container port in the world, according to the 2021 Container Port Performance Index, published by The World Bank and S&P Global Intelligence in May 2022.

Substantial growth was also seen in bulk segments within KPA's non-containerized sector such as breakbulk, up 143 per cent, and agri-bulk, up 108 per cent. Other bulk categories increased 52 per cent, it said.
