Port of Pointe-Noire plays host to 15,000 TEU MSC ship
Date:2023-03-09 Readers:
THE Port of Pointe-Noire in Congo-Brazzaville has received a 15,000 TEU container vessel owned by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).

The MSC Virgo arrived on February 27 - part of MSC's expansion plans in sub-Saharan Africa and its efforts to redesign its service to the West African coast, reports London's Port Technology.

According to MSC, its renewed presence at the Port of Pointe-Noire will serve as a gateway for international trade, increase the volumes handled, and contribute to the growth of economic activity in the country and Central Africa.

The port is a crucial component of MSC's operations in Central Africa and serves as a vital link to the region.

With the new call, direct and quick exchanges with Asia and Europe will be enabled. Additionally, the Port of Pointe-Noire will remain a key transshipment platform for goods destined for Angola and Namibia.

As MSC pointed out, the arrival of the MSC Virgo at the Port of Pointe-Noire marks a significant milestone in the development of the African port.

MSC recently launched the world's first ID-based container pick-up, following a successful test phase with Van Moer Logistics and MSC PSA European Terminal (MPET), Antwerp, in 2022.

The ID-based pick-up process is part of the ongoing rollout of Secure Container Release (SCR) at MPET.
